The Mother and Father of the bride play a key role in the wedding day and are second only to the lead characters in the show: the bride and groom themselves. Traditionally, it's the parent's of the bride who host the wedding, choose who to invite, organise everything and, of course, pay for it all.
If only it were that simple, eh?
Perhaps your daughter and future son-in-law have decided to do everything themselves? Perhaps geography prevents you from doing as much wedding planning with your daughter as you'd wish? Perhaps your family circumstances mean that things will have to be done differently in some way?
There are so many ways in which you can get involved and make your daughter's day special. We've got lots of advice and ideas, just click on any subject that interests you below.

When and how should I get involved?
As soon as your daughter and her fiancé have set a date, sit down with them and discuss how you would like to be involved in, and contribute to, their wedding. By talking this through at the beginning, you will avoid any debate later, when stress and time pressure come into play.
If you are to be central to the wedding planning then our best advice is communicate!
Make a list of what you have agreed to do and talk it through with the bride and groom. As the preparations continue, it will be your ability to communicate clearly, to keep things organised and to collaborate and consult, that will ensure the success of the wedding. When it's all over, you can apply for a job as a top class wedding planner!
On the Big Day
On the morning of the wedding it is your job to keep calm and keep everything ticking over. There might be lots of people getting ready all at once, or you might have decided to keep the bride's morning as a quiet affair with just the two of you, either way you must be lighthearted, helpful and most importantly you must enjoy every minute yourself.
Anything you can do to make the morning a treat will really help to make this special time memorable. Maybe you'd like to book a hair and beauty specialist to come over in the morning.
At the reception you will be the host, everyone will want to wish you well and you must be at your best, so remember to keep hydrated, eat little and often, take any essentials you might need in a handy sized bag and keep smiling!
When the day is over
The bride will love to talk you about the wedding day for years to come and it's your job to remind her about the finer details and be sure to collect the wedding guest book from the venue so you can enjoy reading through it together.
If you have taken digital photographs you can be in charge of getting these printed so that the brides gets to see images from her day that the official wedding photographer might have missed.
You might also need to help with the Thank You list, as a note will need to be made about who sent what. If it is your close family that have sent gifts then it is a nice gesture to thank them directly yourself and relive the wedding day with them over a nice phone call.
