From the dress, rings and flowers to professional photos, cake and hired cars, wedding insurance should have it covered. Knowing that you’ll be compensated if any items are lost, stolen or damaged should give you peace of mind when you’re planning your wedding – and on the big day itself.
All good Wedding Insurance will cover you if you have to cancel, postpone or rearrange your wedding. This could be because someone in the wedding party falls ill – or for another unexpected (and unavoidable) reason such as redundancy. Your Wedding Insurance should also pay for extra costs in rearranging things to avoid cancelling the wedding.
If a supplier such as a caterer, venue, dressmaker or suit hire firm goes out of business before your big day, a good wedding insurance policy will cover you for the deposits you’ve paid – and for any extra costs involved for arranging a replacements.
What if the photographer doesn’t turn up? Or your wedding photos or video don’t come out? Wedding Insurance will cover you to have pictures of the main wedding party taken on another day.
No one wants to think about the bad stuff that can happy during what should be the happiest day of your life, but if someone is injured or property is damaged at your wedding they you could be liable under Public Liability. Most Wedding Insurance policies will insure you for large amounts to cover these circumstances. Some venues insist you have this cover before you make a booking.
If you’re hiring a marquee you can add extra cover for this which pays for marquee damage or loss up to £20,000.
A few extra tips to make sure you minimise the financial fallout of any wedding that doe not go to plan:
- Pay the deposits for the reception and wedding dress on credit, not debit, cards. A credit card issuer will have to refund you if the supplier goes out of business.
- Put in writing everything you expect from each supplier, together with what is included in the price and what is not. This way, there should be no stressful last-minute disagreements.
- Ask the wedding or reception venue to put aside somewhere secure for guests to leave wedding gifts. Ask a friend or relative to look after them - and take them away at the end of the reception.
- Ask the photographer to take digital photos so they can be checked before he or she leaves.
- Have a contingency plan for outdoor weddings in case it rains.
