After months or even years of preparing the details of your wedding day, you need to make sure that you have a record of your day that captures not only what happened but also all the feelings and emotions of the day.
But how do you start to choose a wedding photographer? These days there are lots of wedding photographers all offering different packages and styles with a range of prices to match. Generally speaking you get what you pay for in terms of experience, coverage and album quality.
How can you make sure that the wedding photos you get are just as wonderful as the day itself?
It is important to decide what your expecatations are from the ofset.
Would you like to walk away from the day knowing that you will have a luxurious and professional album to cherish for years to come? Do you want to know that all of the moments are captured and that you will be given all of the shots to create momentos for yourself and your friends? Are you hoping for natural pictures or more traditional posed shots?
The questions seem endless, but don't be alarmed, just be sure to ask the follow questions when you are considering Wedding Photographers....(and don't be too shy to print out this page to take along with you and make notes)....
- Is your photographer a full time professional photographer?
- Have you seen more than one complete wedding in order to assess his/her work?
- Have you seen a recent wedding? Do not be fobbed off with a large number of best photographs, ask to see a number of albums for consistency of work. If he refuses be wary.
- Are you happy with the style of photography he/she offers? For example, does he/she do the mix of formal and casual shots you require? Do the weddings you have seen tell the story of the day?
- Will you be the photographer covering our wedding? If not, may we see the work of the actual photographer, and may we meet him or her before the day?
- Is he/she a member of a professional association? Such as SWPP
- Does the photographer have Professional Indemnity Insurance?
- Do you get on with the photographer?
- What will you walk away with after the day? Do you get all of the photographs on a CD as print quality images, or are you given the choice of 30+ to go into an album.
- How much direction are you allowed to give on the day of the photographs and afterwards, when the album is being created.
- How many hours will the photographer spend at your wedding? Does their coverage include just the ceremony and wedding breakfast, or into the evening?
Once you've found someone that you get on with and feel comfortable around, good photographic opportunities should be abundant for your professional and then he/she will then be able to capture those moments for you to the best of his/her ability.
Think about meeting the Photographer at the venue before the day to select areas that you would like to capture in your photographs. Gardens, Staircases, Large windows and character buildings all make fantastic backdrops.
