So you've decided on a marquee for your big day. You've measured the dimensions of the space available. To allow the designer to tailor the marquee to your requirements and to save time it is worth considering the following prior to the initial meeting:
- Have an approximate idea of numbers to ensure you choose the right size to be comfortable for the number of guests you are expecting in the marquee.
- Take seating arrangements, dance floors, music equipment, bar areas, and table arrangements into consideration.
- Contact several companies and arrange to get an idea of the different marquee designs and prices available. Even better, Get personal recommendations.
- Ask the marquee hire supplier whether they offer different colours for the interior linings or the exterior, if required.
- Ensure the marquee hire company is fully insured and that the marquee conforms to British Standards specifications.
- Try to keep it local To ensure a quick response in the event of a problem (very rare!) and to avoid paying a premium for travelling time.
- Marquee companies are extremely busy during the summer, make sure you book well in advance, at least six months ahead.
- If you have previously seen a theme or style you like, obtain pictures for the hirer to view.
- Would you prefer a traditional canvas marquee with centre poles and guy ropes, or a modern frame marquee?
Whether you choose a frame marquee (they don’t have any guy ropes, and can almost be erected anywhere) or a pole and peg marquee (they need more space for the guy ropes) is largely dependent on the size of the space available to erect the structure and how many guests you need to acommodate. - Find out if there are any underground pipes or cables in the desired location.
- In residential areas you need to consider sound volumes. Ask your venue what they arrangement is with local residents.
- A marquee should generally blend in i.e. where it is positioned in beautiful gardens or against a great house/building, it shouldn’t cover these up, but enhance the view of guests.
- Portable Toilet Here
Marquee companies can recommend a portable lavatory supplier if you should need one. - A generator and a back-up emergency generator are essential. The power that the caterers will use, plus the power that will be required for the lighting and music normally overloads a normal domestic system. Make sure the wedding insurance policy covers the generator since they are very expensive to replace.
- Consider evening lighting.
- Marquee companies will be able to advise the couple regarding lighting; chandeliers, pinspots and uplighters and how best to create an atmospheric setting.
