Preparing for your big day is an immense and exciting time but unfortunately leaves little time for much else.
Never mind the overwhelming task to prepare looking your most fabulous on wedding day.
Finding the time required to research and hunt down the best beauty buys to nail your beautiful bridal look. What do you need to create the flawless look that is to last throughout the day and evening?
Jenny D is here to take the pressure off and reduce those beauty blues, with all you need to know in preparation for your bridal makeup preparation.
A few top tips in achieving a top beauty looks:
Skin
Makeup will only look good if your skin is happy. Its your canvas for makeup, keep beauty locked in from the inside out…
- Keep skin hydrated. We are 70% water, drink up, keep lips soft skin fresh, and hair shiny.
- Taking a good combined supplement of vitamins and minerals that specifically targets norishing your hair,
skin and nails can give you an extra boost. Good examples would be silica, sea kelp, vitamins A,C,E and your B vitamins. - Exercise! It promotes fresh blood pumping around your body delivering fresh oxygen and nutrients to feed your skin with goodness and flushing out old toxins.
- Don’t overload your skin with products, Less is more. Keep hydration locked in especially in the summer months, use a serum such as
Medik8 ‘s Hydr8 B5, £34. (pictured right)
A favourite with celebrities, with its moisture retention capacity keeps skin silky smooth and visabally brightens with its super anti-inflammatory and anti-redness formula, whilst regenerating your skin. - Your moisteriser must include an SPF to keep skin looking young, again try a lotion instead of a cream, which is lighter, and easily absorbed.
-
Best inexpensive OLAY TOTAL EFFECTS 7X DAY CREAM WITH SPF 15
- Any facials running up to the wedding should be done at least 6 weeks before the big day.
- A quick beauty fix with less prep time, would be to have microdermabrasion, I like the Crystal Clear, it works by gently exfoliating the outer layers of skin, Crystal clear boasts its benefits as being ‘The treatment that provides immediate visible results for ageing skin, lines & wrinkles, open pores, blackheads, pigmentation, blemish scars, acne scars, stretch marks and much, much more.’
Makeup
Eyes:
Puffy sore eyes, dark circles, no sleep the night before?!

Don’t fret Eye Slices is a new revolutionary product that’s getting the makeup industry all excited.
They are packed with botanical goodness, aloe ferox, an organic whole leaf aloe extract, and a peptide complex which helps to firm and brighten and skin anti-aging eye treatment that locks in moisture. They are reusable little gel pads that you put on your eyes for 5 minutes, which are cooling and heavenly!
- Prep skin using a primer, it smoothes the skin for a flawless canvas ready to apply your base and keeps foundation looking fresh for longer.

I love Arbonne makeup primer as its skin care based using a blend of vitamins, skin-perfecting pigments, and anti-aging ingredients . Its acts as a radiant base to diminish wrinkles and enlarged pores. The result is a velvety, matte, radiant finish. Ready to apply your base.
Eye buys:
Splurge: Arbonne Virtual Illusion Primer £28
Alternative
Save: Smash Box Photo Finish, £21, available at Debenhams
TOP TIP! Apply a highlighter to cheekbones, under arch of brow and cupids bow before applying foundation. The glow then appears to be the skins natural luminosity coming through!
Foundation/ Tinted moisteriser.
- Find the right medium for your skin type. What you don’t want to do is overload your skin with oils, or you’ll find it breaking up and sliding off.
Apply foundation with a buffing brush, like the 182 from MAC. I love this brush, you use less product, buffs the foundation evenly over the face leaving a polished finish.- Best Foundations, Armani Luminous silk I find this universally great for all ages, skin types and tones, for a sheer base or to build up for more coverage, with a long lasting duration. Or Giorgio Armani Designer Compact Foundation SPF 22, £30.
Foundation buys:
Splurg: Armani , Luminous Silk £30 available from Selfridges.
Save: Revlon Colour Stay, £11.99, available from Superdrug
Top Tip! A super saver tip on your base is to double up on products…
I like to mix up my products to create different effects and save time! Mix concealer with 2 part primer and moisteriser and buff products together applying with a MAC 182 brush, concentrating mainly on the areas requiring coverage, i.e. T-Zone.
- Best undereye concealer, Dior skinflash pen, £22
- Set your base with loose or set powder, I prefer a set powder so can take it with me for touch ups.
Choose a mineral powder that is light and adds luminosity and dimishes shine try and MAC’s mineralize skinfinish, £19.50, which buffs and highlights in the right places, beautiful.
Or MAC blot powder £17, in those targeted oil prone zones for a good matt finish.
TOP TIP! Avoid powdering cheeks, leave them glowing, to give off that dewy luminosity look.
- Dust a sun kissed bronzer on to warm up your complexion and achieve that happy healthy glow,
I love Nars Laguna bronzer, £22, applying to the areas only where the sun will kiss you.
Bronzer buys:
Splurge: GUERLAIN TERRACOTTA BRONZER, £32.50, available from Debenhams
Save: Nars Laguna bronzer, £22, available from Space NK
- Choose a cream blush to achieve a dewy, natural glow,
Stila Covertible Colour, £18, available online
Nars Multiple, Malibu, £27, available Selfridges
TOP TIP! For an extra special finish to the cheeks lightly sweep a delicate shimmer powder over the tops of the cheeks, to give some tonal difference.
I love Nars Orgasm Blush, £19.50 by Nars with its transparent mix of pretty rose, peach and golden flecks for soft, sheer and highlighted effect.
Eyebrows
If brows are sparse or wild clean, trim and shape them up with a threading session, waxing can sometimes be too harsh and tear the skin.
Achieve short term definition by filling them in for the day using a pencil lightly, try MAC’s lingering £10 for a great colour or brow filler and fix such as Benefit’s Brow kit, £26.50, avail from Boots with colour and brush to fill, tweezers to shape, and wax to hold!
Bring back the brows!
For a more permanent brow fix, a new wonder product has arrived; the Revitabrow. Following the huge success and celebrity cult following of the Revitalash, it seems a stunted growth in lashes and brows are no longer an excuse for achieving fluttering long lashes and beautiful natural brows. Using peptides and botanicals for strengething and conditioning, the natural formula stimulates hair growth.
Eyebrow buys:
Spurlge - Revitabrow Available from salons and clinics nationwide, including Space NK £87
Eyelashes
- Eyelashes are best curled before applying mascara, I like Shu Uemura’s eye lash culers, £19.50 they are a superia must have! Available at Harvey Nichols
- Best mascara, I love Max Factor waterproof False Lash and non waterproof I like Max Factor Masterpiece, both high impact lengthening and volumising that doesn’t leave your lashes looking clumpy when you build up between coats. And doesn’t budge!
- Best cheat – false lashes, applied for the day, full set or ¾ length to shape and elongate. Available from Boots or Superdrug
