How much damage do you think a £20,000 wedding could to the environment? According to Climate Care the average wedding emits 14 tons of CO2 (that is a large amount considering the average person emits 12 tons in a year).
Couples are often aware of not only the environmental impact of their wedding choices, but also sustainability and social responsibility.
An Eco friendly wedding is easier on your conscience because you can take control of your event's impact on the environment, and often means that you can connect more with the spirit of the event. Eco weddinga are hard to pull off but a significant accomplishment when they are achieved.
Ideas for an Eco Wedding
- Source food and flowers locally
Our favourite local florists include:
Blossom Florist in Chorlton
Eden Floral Designs, Wirral
Snapdragon Florist in Chester
The Flowers Shop in Clitheroe - Look for a Secondhand wedding dress
Try: Oxfam Weddings, Heswall - Choose a gown that could be converted for you. For example, Gypsy by Beverly Lister would be fabulous as a knee length lace sheath, to wear with a vintage beaded cardigan and velvet ribbon belt. This becomes a very canny purchase, especially if you have had your gown made to measure.
- Use 100% recycled paper and soy based ink for printing
- Send Reply Postcards rather than cards and envelopes
- Ask guests not to buy anything new to wear
- Choose a none for profit venue such as a park or musuem
- Choose a venue that needs little or no decoration, and is simply inherently beautiful
There are so many beautiful wedding venues in the north west of England, but our favourites include
Mytton Fold Hotel - Have you ceremony and reception in the same place so that guest do not need to travel from one place to another. Even better, find a venue that has ceremony, reception, and overnight options, such as....
- Borrow or rent everything and anything you can instead of buying new
- Choose heirloom or vintage jewellery
- Don't use disposable plates, glasses, or cultlery, or wherever possible reusable or bio-degrable products.
Try
Karma Cups in Bolton
Edible Plate Company, Southport
