Although it may feel that the focus of the day is usually on the bride, the wedding is just as much about the groom. While he may not be fanatically dieting and attending multiple dress fittings, it is just as important that he looks and feels his best too.
While the traditional option fo the morning sutis are still firm favourites, couples often prefer to go for something less formal these days.
Kilts are still very popular, even when there is no Scottish heritage in the family, because they add a sense of occasion.
Other couples like a bold black tie wedding, with all the male guests wearing dinner jackets, and the groom's own outfit needs to reflect that but with a twist, possibly a red flower in his buttonhole.
If the wedding has a colour theme, the groom can be linked in, so if the bride is carrying blue flowers and bridesmaids are wearing blue, the ties and waistcoasts of the groom, best man, ushers and father of the bride should be in a matching shade.
If you're hiring a suit, make the arrangements at least 2 months in advance, with a final fitting the week before the ceremony.
Tip: The 2 month suit shopping trip can also be tied in with some pre-wedding celebration drinks, possibly as a chance for the groom to spend some time with the father of the bride and other family members, ahead of the often over powering and friend-oriented stag party.
There are a number of styles of menswear to hire - the standard tie, the more flamboyant cravat, normally worn with morning suits; and the bow tie, for more formal or evening weddings.
As the trend has moved towards more casual weddings, top hats have fallen out of favour. But if you're planning a grand affair with all your friends and relatives invited, then top hats and tails can make a real statement.
Don't forget the finishing touches, like a smart pair of shoes that matches your suit.
Tip: remove the sticky price tags on the soul, and wipe off all polish so it doesn't get on the hem of the brides dress!
Grooms who want to stamp their personality on their attire could go for a wide collar, or a well fitted suit from Flannels or Reiss, that can look more comfortable than morning jackets, and can be kept for future events - why should the bride be the only one to treat themselves to a brand new outfit??
Or to add some personality why not look into some interesting cufflinks. These also make a memorable gift from the bride to the groom on the morning of the wedding, or from the groom to his best man and Father of the bride.
